The school has a specialist Performing Arts teacher who takes all classes Reception to Yr.6 in the curriculum areas of Dance, Drama and Music.
Instrumental music tuition in piano, guitar and violin is available for students on site. Also on site, The Salvation Army offers students the opportunity to learn to play a variety of brass instruments through its Just Brass program. Other specialist instrument instruction is offered through the Instrumental Music Hub our school belongs to, where students in Yrs.4-6 are transported to another local school, Allenby Gardens Primary, to learn to play anything from a clarinet to a bass guitar or percussion, while also gaining valuable experience playing in a band or ensemble.
Students in Yrs.5/6 are encouraged to join the Kilkenny Primary School Choir, which rehearses one lesson per week in preparation for participation in South Australia’s iconic Festival of Music held each September. Students have the opportunity to perform at world-class venues such as Adelaide Festival Theatre and Adelaide Entertainment Centre. The school choir also performs at our school assemblies, end-of-year school concerts, at the local RSL on Remembrance Day, local shopping malls near Christmas time, or occasionally at aged care facilities.
