Official records show that Kilkenny School was opened on September 30th 1889 on the site where the present school's swimming pool and oval are sited. However for some 21 months prior to the opening the school occupied the small York Rechabite Hall (now demolished).

Families wishing to enrol their child(ren) at Kilkenny Primary School may complete a "Registration of Interest" form. Priority will be given to siblings of existing students and families living in the surrounding area. Families living outside of this area will be considered if there are spaces available in the child's year level at the time they are to commence school.
