Governing Council

The Kilkenny Governing Council has joint responsibility with the principal for the governance of the school. The functions of the governing council include:

  • To assist strategic planning for the school
  • To provide advice to the principal ensuring the curriculum offered meets the needs of students
  •  Determining and ratifying policies for the school
  • To review, approve and monitor the school, OSHC and canteen finances
  • To present operational plans to the school community through the annual report
  • To act as OSHC employer and to ensure the OSHC service meets the legal requirements of the National Quality Framework.

As outlined in the Governing Council constitution, the council must meet at least twice in each term of school with meetings scheduled on a Monday evening from 6:30pm till 8:30pm.

Governing Council members are elected through a nomination and election process at the Annual General Meeting in Term 1 each year. Council members have a two-year tenure.

The Governing Council also has a number of Sub-Committees that parents and caregivers can volunteer to support. These include:

  • OSHC
  • Preschool
  • Canteen
  • Fundraising/Community Events
  • Reconciliation

Current Governing Council Office Holders

The Governing Council constitution specifies the office holders that the council must have. These are the Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary. Office holders are elected at the Annual General Meeting for a period of 12 months.
